This picture shows the 10' by 12' adobe workshop in the foreground, with the straw bale home in the background. The exterior walls of the house are made of straw bale and the interior walls are adobe. The only wood-framed walls are those with plumbing.
Note that the bottom two feet of the workshop is protected with cement stucco. This is followed by the exposed adobe bricks, the concrete bond beam (the gray area), and cobb, or light straw, in the triangular area around the window. Cob is straw mixed with just enough mud to make it stick together. Please refer to the Building With Awareness DVD to learn how these walls were constructed. |
