Straw Bale House with Post and Beam Construction
The information on this page has moved. More information on post-and-beam framing can be found here . . .

The roof loads are transmitted to the ground by a post-and-beam structure. The roof does not sit on the straw bales themselves. Some building codes do permit the to roof to sit upon the bale walls. There are pros and cons to each system. The advantage of the post-and-beam method is that the roof can be constructed before the bales are staced. This will help to protect them from the weather.
